With the death of Franco in 1975 came a new change: Ibiza became a magnet for international stars. Celebrities such as Bob Marley, Ursula Andress and Freddie Mercury visited the island and made it a hotspot for high society.
During this time, some of the most famous clubs in the world were built – often in converted farmhouses. The legendary Pachaof the Amnesia and later the Privilege became icons of international club culture. DJs and musicians from all over the world came to Ibiza to create new sounds and turn night into day.
Ibiza today – Between myth and commerce
Even though Ibiza is now one of the most famous party islands in the world, the myth of the hippie era remains. Many places, such as the traditional hippie markets in Las Dalias and Es Canar, as well as the alternative communities in the interior, preserve the origins of the free way of life.
The documentary examines the question of how Ibiza asserts itself in the tension between tradition and tourism. Is the island still a place of freedom or has it long since been taken over by mass tourism?
