Ibiza Diary: News from Wednesday, September 24, 2025
In Eivissa, pressure is growing on authorities and shipping companies: City Councilor Rubén Sousa is demanding a binding agreement to limit cruise ships and, above all, passenger numbers in Ibiza. Previous agreements are non-binding and do little to limit the burden on the city. While up to 12.000 cruise passengers arrived simultaneously on some days in the summer, the numbers expected for October are significantly lower. On October 26, three ships will converge in the port—the Norwegian Breakaway with almost 3.963 passengers, the Star Flyer with 170 passengers, and the Sea Cloud Spirit with 136 passengers. City Hall is hoping for a joint framework agreement between the Spanish, Balearic, and local governments and the shipping companies to regulate the situation.

• From October 29 to November 2, Ibiza will be transformed into a stage for horror, fantasy, and creativity at the 2025 Halloween Festival. In addition to film screenings, there will be competitions, workshops, and the legendary Zombie Walk across the Vara de Rey. The motto "RICTUS. Fantastic and Terror Faces" invites artists to submit works of painting, photography, or sculpture by October 21. Short filmmakers can also compete in the "Terror Express" competition, where horror films are created in a very short time. The festival is organized by Eskoria Films and Pauxa Films under the direction of Ibizan director Adrián Cardona.

• Médicos del Mundo warns that Ibiza is becoming a destination for sexual exploitation – women are sometimes forced to work in villas, on yachts, or at parties. Many of those affected come from countries like Colombia, Venezuela, or Paraguay, live in legal uncertainty, and have little access to basic rights. This year, 377 women have already been assisted on Ibiza and Formentera, primarily in the capital. The NGO is now launching a study to gather reliable figures and demand effective measures. It is also focusing on its "La letra pequeña" campaign, which aims to debunk myths about prostitution.
• In Jesús, a car caught fire this afternoon while driving. The driver and her 14-year-old daughter were able to get to safety in time. The vehicle was completely destroyed. Firefighters, police, and the Guardia Civil responded immediately and quickly brought the flames under control. The incident occurred around 15:45 p.m. and caused thick plumes of smoke to rise over the town. Residents were alarmed by the explosion and heavy smoke.
● A fire broke out yesterday in a dry marina and neighboring properties in Cala de Bou. The facility serves as dry marinewhere boats are parked, and adjacent areas are also affected. Firefighters, environmental protection agencies, and aircraft are deployed, as the fire has already engulfed approximately 3 hectares of land. Access to the fire site is blocked, and it is currently unclear how the fire started and whether anyone was injured. Authorities are now investigating and trying to stop the spread.
• In August 2025, occupancy rates in the Pitiusas fell significantly: From first place the previous year, Ibiza and Formentera fell to fourth place among Spanish tourist regions. Hotel occupancy rates were only 86% for accommodations and 85,6% for rooms – lower than those of 2024. The average length of stay fell to 4,43 days, and overnight stays declined by 3,8%. Despite the decline in revenue, employment in the hotel industry increased: 14.670 employees were registered – significantly more than 13.728 in the previous year. The Pitiusas thus lost out to Mallorca and the greater Palma area.
• In Ibiza, a conflict is brewing between the DGT (Traffic Authority) and the Consell: The latter is complaining that it is being denied the vehicle data necessary to punish traffic violations on the island. The Consell claims it has already submitted requests, but the DGT denies having even received such official requests. The argument is that without access to the DGT's databases, the Consell cannot impose fines on private vehicles, only on rental cars that are required to be registered. The "Truco clave," the formal request for data transfer, is still considered unresolved. The dispute threatens to undermine the effectiveness of traffic regulation, especially during the busy season.

Flightright – When passenger rights simply work
Flight delays, cancellations, or overbookings are unfortunately not uncommon. However, many passengers are unaware that they are entitled to compensation in such cases – and even fewer know how to pursue it. This is precisely where Flight right comes into play: a pioneer among legal tech companies and market leader in the field of air passenger rights.
Specialist in EU passenger rights since 2010
Since its founding in 2010, Flightright has pursued a clear goal: to help passengers assert their rights against airlines – quickly, easily, and risk-free. The legal basis for this is the EU Air Passenger Rights Regulation 261/2004, which, among other things, provides compensation of up to 600 euros for flight problems.
How Flightright works
Using the service is incredibly simple: Affected parties enter the key details of their flight online – within a few minutes, the system automatically checks whether a claim exists. If so, Flightright handles the entire process with the airline, including all legal steps. Even court proceedings can be conducted upon request – at no additional cost to the customer.
The highlight: Payment is only made if the claim is successful. If no payout is made, there are no costs. If compensation is successful, Flightright retains a commission from the compensation amount. This model ensures maximum fairness and transparency.
Retroactive up to three years possible
Many people don’t know that even flights that took place in the past can still be compensated – usually up to three years retroactively. It is therefore worthwhile to have older cases reviewed again.
How much is the compensation?
The amount of compensation depends on the flight route:
- EUR 250 for short distances up to 1.500 km
- EUR 400 for medium-haul flights between 1.500 km and 3.500 km
- EUR 600 for long distances over 3.500 km
This usually requires an arrival delay of at least three hours – or a flight cancelled at short notice for which the airline is responsible.
Why Flightright?
What sets Flightright apart is not only its fair success model, but also its impressive success rate of around 99% in legal proceedings. With over 600 million euros in compensation payments enforced Flightright is one of the absolute pioneers in Europe.
The provider also scores points with transparent communication: The status of the case can be viewed online at any time – conveniently from the sofa or on the go via smartphone.
For all those who do not want to be left with the damage
No one should forgo their right to compensation just because the process seems complicated. With Flightright, asserting your rights is child's play – without any stress, paperwork, or legal fees. Anyone who has experienced flight trouble can now easily protect themselves and have their compensation pursued professionally.
