Ibiza Diary: News from Tuesday, September 23, 2025
The legendary Las Dalias hippie market in Sant Carles, established in 1985 and now celebrating its 40th anniversary, is expanding its offerings with a new multicultural area. Entitled "Un Mundo en Las Dalias," the third stop, "El Rincón de Guatemala," opens, dedicated to the tradition of giant kites. These colorful paper artworks, which in Guatemala drive away evil spirits and symbolize the connection to ancestors, bring new color and spirituality to the market. Coordinator Isabel Lambour emphasizes the connection between community, art, and philosophy of life that is tangible here. In addition to Guatemala, Vietnam and Nepal are also represented with cultural symbols—a project that celebrates the diversity and interconnectedness of the world.
• Due to severe weather over Catalonia, four flights between Ibiza and Barcelona were canceled on Sunday – two arrivals and two departures, all late in the evening. According to AENA, the storms caused massive delays at Barcelona-El Prat Airport and also affected Mallorca and Menorca; hundreds of flights nationwide were affected by the weather. Affected travelers reported overcrowded counters, missing announcements, and long waits for rebooking. In some cases, the hotel quotas provided by airlines were quickly exhausted, requiring travelers to advance overnight stays and later claim expenses. Rebookings for Monday were often only available late in the evening.
● Ibiza & Formentera: Dispute over beach clubs. In the Pitiusas, an ironic statement – "No quiero DJs en ningún beach club más porque molestan a los fisches" – is causing a stir. Behind this is the debate about stricter restrictions on beach clubs, which attract an international audience with luxury gastronomy and music. Critics see the regulations as a threat to tourism as an economic driver. Proponents, on the other hand, emphasize the protection of the coast, free access to the beaches, and less noise pollution for residents. Social media is flooded with criticism and ridicule in equal measure, further exacerbating the tensions surrounding the issue.
● EasyNomad, a digital travel platform from the Balearic Islands, is launching with Ibiza and Formentera as a showcase for its idea of bringing travelers closer to the authentic side of the islands. The app offers interactive maps, local routes, and recommendations off the beaten track. EasyNomad has been active since October 2024 and is now part of Turistec, the Balearic innovation network for tourism technology. The goal is to make vacation experiences more personal and sustainable – from gastronomy to nature to nightlife. The platform is intended as a tool for both travelers and providers to showcase the diversity of the islands beyond the masses.

• Two beaches in the Pitiusas have made it into the top ten of "Spain's bluest waters." Cala Saladeta on Ibiza and Ses Illetes on Formentera were singled out for their exceptional water quality in a nationwide evaluation. The ranking particularly highlights clarity, purity, and color intensity. Both beaches have long been considered a draw for tourists and locals alike. This new ranking puts them back in the spotlight as flagship beaches of the Balearic Islands.
● Ibiza is increasingly losing its iconic lizard, the Lagartija de las PitiusasThe cause is the invasive horseshoe snake, which has now occupied over 90% of the island and is feeding on the lizards. With the decline in the animals, agriculture is missing a natural ally – pests are spreading unhindered. Although more than 3.000 snakes were caught in 2024, this is not enough to stop the spread. Environmental organizations are now calling for more support and warning that without further measures, the species could disappear within a few years.

Flightright – When passenger rights simply work
Flight delays, cancellations, or overbookings are unfortunately not uncommon. However, many passengers are unaware that they are entitled to compensation in such cases – and even fewer know how to pursue it. This is precisely where Flight right comes into play: a pioneer among legal tech companies and market leader in the field of air passenger rights.
Specialist in EU passenger rights since 2010
Since its founding in 2010, Flightright has pursued a clear goal: to help passengers assert their rights against airlines – quickly, easily, and risk-free. The legal basis for this is the EU Air Passenger Rights Regulation 261/2004, which, among other things, provides compensation of up to 600 euros for flight problems.
How Flightright works
Using the service is incredibly simple: Affected parties enter the key details of their flight online – within a few minutes, the system automatically checks whether a claim exists. If so, Flightright handles the entire process with the airline, including all legal steps. Even court proceedings can be conducted upon request – at no additional cost to the customer.
The highlight: Payment is only made if the claim is successful. If no payout is made, there are no costs. If compensation is successful, Flightright retains a commission from the compensation amount. This model ensures maximum fairness and transparency.
Retroactive up to three years possible
Many people don’t know that even flights that took place in the past can still be compensated – usually up to three years retroactively. It is therefore worthwhile to have older cases reviewed again.
How much is the compensation?
The amount of compensation depends on the flight route:
- EUR 250 for short distances up to 1.500 km
- EUR 400 for medium-haul flights between 1.500 km and 3.500 km
- EUR 600 for long distances over 3.500 km
This usually requires an arrival delay of at least three hours – or a flight cancelled at short notice for which the airline is responsible.
Why Flightright?
What sets Flightright apart is not only its fair success model, but also its impressive success rate of around 99% in legal proceedings. With over 600 million euros in compensation payments enforced Flightright is one of the absolute pioneers in Europe.
The provider also scores points with transparent communication: The status of the case can be viewed online at any time – conveniently from the sofa or on the go via smartphone.
For all those who do not want to be left with the damage
No one should forgo their right to compensation just because the process seems complicated. With Flightright, asserting your rights is child's play – without any stress, paperwork, or legal fees. Anyone who has experienced flight trouble can now easily protect themselves and have their compensation pursued professionally.
