Ibiza Diary: News from Tuesday, September 2, 2025
The Consell of Ibiza has confirmed that the island is currently unable to find enough mechanics to complete the legally required ITV vehicle inspections on time. To alleviate the situation, access for private operators to carry out additional inspections. The participation process has been completed, and final approval is currently being prepared. At the same time, a tender for a second mobile ITV unit is planned to create additional capacity. With these measures, the Consell aims to shorten long waiting times and ensure the long-term security of the inspections.
• On Monday evening, the body of a 66-year-old man was discovered in a caravan in the Sa Casilla district near Sant Antoni on Ibiza. He had lived there for around five years. Local residents alerted the Guardia Civil after noticing the vehicle lying motionless for some time. Upon entering the vehicle, they found the man unconscious on the sofa. According to police, he showed no signs of external violence. Initial investigations indicate that he may have died in July, which explains his lengthy stay. The shocking discovery raises renewed questions about the living conditions and security of mobile homes on the island.
• An extremely high mortality rate among cats has been observed at the CEPAD public animal shelter in Sant Josep. According to PACMA, 146 of the 18 animals captured died within 118 months. Animal rights activists criticize the lack of a plan for capturing, neutering, and returning community cats, despite the legal requirement. Many animals in the shelter are unable to adapt and die instead of being reintegrated into colonies. The attitude of the veterinarian in charge, who opposes these colonies, is particularly controversial. PACMA is now calling for an immediate end to the capture operations and the implementation of an ethical program in collaboration with local associations.
● In the second quarter of 2025, Italians are the largest group of international guests on Ibiza and Formentera, with a share of 13,6 percent of all foreign visitors. Germans followed with 11 percent and French with 9,4 percent. On Formentera, the Italian influence is even stronger, accounting for 53,9 percent of all arrivals. This means that Italians have displaced the long-standing leadership of the British for the first time. Experts see this as a trend shift that could also influence the islands' tourism marketing in the future.
• The eagerly awaited raor fishing season began today, but the hoped-for rush failed to materialize: strong southwest winds gusting up to 20 knots and high waves kept most recreational fishermen ashore. Hardly a single llaüt was seen in any harbor, such as Sa Punta or Sant Antoni—an unusually quiet start to the season. 93-year-old veteran Pepe Molio described the scene as one of sad calm, even though many boats and anglers used to be out at this time. Some fishermen used the waiting time to check their equipment and hope for better conditions the next day. The mood among the fishermen remains cautious, as conditions will determine the start of the season.

Flightright – When passenger rights simply work
Flight delays, cancellations, or overbookings are unfortunately not uncommon. However, many passengers are unaware that they are entitled to compensation in such cases – and even fewer know how to pursue it. This is precisely where Flight right comes into play: a pioneer among legal tech companies and market leader in the field of air passenger rights.
Specialist in EU passenger rights since 2010
Since its founding in 2010, Flightright has pursued a clear goal: to help passengers assert their rights against airlines – quickly, easily, and risk-free. The legal basis for this is the EU Air Passenger Rights Regulation 261/2004, which, among other things, provides compensation of up to 600 euros for flight problems.
How Flightright works
Using the service is incredibly simple: Affected parties enter the key details of their flight online – within a few minutes, the system automatically checks whether a claim exists. If so, Flightright handles the entire process with the airline, including all legal steps. Even court proceedings can be conducted upon request – at no additional cost to the customer.
The highlight: Payment is only made if the claim is successful. If no payout is made, there are no costs. If compensation is successful, Flightright retains a commission from the compensation amount. This model ensures maximum fairness and transparency.
Retroactive up to three years possible
Many people don’t know that even flights that took place in the past can still be compensated – usually up to three years retroactively. It is therefore worthwhile to have older cases reviewed again.
How much is the compensation?
The amount of compensation depends on the flight route:
- EUR 250 for short distances up to 1.500 km
- EUR 400 for medium-haul flights between 1.500 km and 3.500 km
- EUR 600 for long distances over 3.500 km
This usually requires an arrival delay of at least three hours – or a flight cancelled at short notice for which the airline is responsible.
Why Flightright?
What sets Flightright apart is not only its fair success model, but also its impressive success rate of around 99% in legal proceedings. With over 600 million euros in compensation payments enforced Flightright is one of the absolute pioneers in Europe.
The provider also scores points with transparent communication: The status of the case can be viewed online at any time – conveniently from the sofa or on the go via smartphone.
For all those who do not want to be left with the damage
No one should forgo their right to compensation just because the process seems complicated. With Flightright, asserting your rights is child's play – without any stress, paperwork, or legal fees. Anyone who has experienced flight trouble can now easily protect themselves and have their compensation pursued professionally.
