Ibiza Diary: News from Tuesday, September 16, 2025
According to the AEMET meteorological agency, Spain has experienced its hottest summer since records began. The average temperature was approximately 2,1°C above the average for the years between 1991 and 2020. This summer even slightly surpasses the previous hottest year, 2022. The main factors include several severe heatwaves, especially on the Iberian Peninsula and the Balearic Islands. Climate experts warn that such extreme temperatures could become more frequent in the future if climate change is not significantly slowed.
• Sant Josep Town Hall, together with diving centers and volunteers, collected data on the condition of the Posidonia seagrass meadows. During dives at seven locations – including Es Vedrà, Es Freus, Cala d'Hort, and Sa Conillera – density, blooms, fruits, and invasive species were recorded. The seagrass meadows are a UNESCO World Heritage Site, grow extremely slowly, and are considered an important safeguard for the marine ecosystem. Nevertheless, they are under severe pressure from illegal anchoring, pollution, and climate change. The monitoring runs until October 15 and is intended to raise awareness among skippers about choosing safe anchorages.
• The Ibiza Mare Nostrum Folklore Festival is taking place for the 27th time this year and brings together dance and music groups from Portugal, Gran Canaria, Murcia, and Ibiza. The opening will take place on Saturday, September 20, with a grand performance at Parque Reina Sofía in Ibiza Town. Performances will continue on Sunday in various municipalities. The festival aims to preserve intangible heritage and promote cultural exchange. Visitors can experience traditional dances, music, and costumes from different regions.
• A serious traffic accident involving three vehicles occurred yesterday at around 300:18 p.m. on the EI-00, the road from Sant Joan near Ca na Pepeta. Two of the vehicles were completely destroyed in the collision, and one of the passengers was taken to hospital with moderate injuries. The Guardia Civil had to close traffic in both directions, causing significant traffic jams. Several tow trucks were dispatched to remove the vehicles from the road and clear the area. The police investigation is focusing on a possible failure to yield as the cause of the accident.
• Plastic Free: Alianza Residuo Cero Ibiza y Formentera is participating in World Clean-Up Day with collection campaigns on September 19 and 20 in Cala Tarida, Santa Eulària, es Cavallet, and Benimussa. Volunteer organizations like Deixalles and Ibiza Limpia aim to remove trash from natural areas; last year, around 500 kilos were collected. Single-use items such as plastic caps, cans, wet wipes, and cigarette butts are particularly common. The initiative emphasizes that Ibiza and Formentera should take a leading role in waste prevention. The goal is to raise public awareness and advance the "Residuo Cero" vision by 2030.
● On Thursday, September 18, 2025, Ibiza celebrates the “Tourist day" with a diverse program in all municipalities. In Santa Eulària des Riu, for example, free activities are offered: there are guided tours, arts and crafts, themed workshops, excursions, and open-air events. The goal is to engage visitors and introduce them to the local culture, nature, and way of life. The activities are family-friendly and spread throughout the day (morning and afternoon/evening). Organizers hope that the day will help promote more conscious tourism and strengthen connections between guests and hosts.

Flightright – When passenger rights simply work
Flight delays, cancellations, or overbookings are unfortunately not uncommon. However, many passengers are unaware that they are entitled to compensation in such cases – and even fewer know how to pursue it. This is precisely where Flight right comes into play: a pioneer among legal tech companies and market leader in the field of air passenger rights.
Specialist in EU passenger rights since 2010
Since its founding in 2010, Flightright has pursued a clear goal: to help passengers assert their rights against airlines – quickly, easily, and risk-free. The legal basis for this is the EU Air Passenger Rights Regulation 261/2004, which, among other things, provides compensation of up to 600 euros for flight problems.
How Flightright works
Using the service is incredibly simple: Affected parties enter the key details of their flight online – within a few minutes, the system automatically checks whether a claim exists. If so, Flightright handles the entire process with the airline, including all legal steps. Even court proceedings can be conducted upon request – at no additional cost to the customer.
The highlight: Payment is only made if the claim is successful. If no payout is made, there are no costs. If compensation is successful, Flightright retains a commission from the compensation amount. This model ensures maximum fairness and transparency.
Retroactive up to three years possible
Many people don’t know that even flights that took place in the past can still be compensated – usually up to three years retroactively. It is therefore worthwhile to have older cases reviewed again.
How much is the compensation?
The amount of compensation depends on the flight route:
- EUR 250 for short distances up to 1.500 km
- EUR 400 for medium-haul flights between 1.500 km and 3.500 km
- EUR 600 for long distances over 3.500 km
This usually requires an arrival delay of at least three hours – or a flight cancelled at short notice for which the airline is responsible.
Why Flightright?
What sets Flightright apart is not only its fair success model, but also its impressive success rate of around 99% in legal proceedings. With over 600 million euros in compensation payments enforced Flightright is one of the absolute pioneers in Europe.
The provider also scores points with transparent communication: The status of the case can be viewed online at any time – conveniently from the sofa or on the go via smartphone.
For all those who do not want to be left with the damage
No one should forgo their right to compensation just because the process seems complicated. With Flightright, asserting your rights is child's play – without any stress, paperwork, or legal fees. Anyone who has experienced flight trouble can now easily protect themselves and have their compensation pursued professionally.
