Ibiza Diary: News from Thursday, September 25, 2025

Ryanair will switch entirely to digital boarding passes starting November 12, 2025, including for all flights to and from Ibiza. The end of paper boarding passes was originally scheduled for November 3, but has been postponed. Almost 80 percent of passengers already use digital boarding passes. Marketing Director Dara Brady emphasizes that the switch will enable faster and more environmentally friendly travel. Boarding passes will now be provided exclusively via the "myRyanair" app or online check-in.

The Ibiza Salt Festival returns from October 17-19, 2025, making Sant Jordi and the Ses Salines Natural Park the centerpiece of the festivities. The event combines tradition, culture, and gastronomy, appealing to locals and visitors alike. New this year are the figures of Xicu and Jordi, two giant heads in the shape of salt farmers, and an exhibition on the Balearic seas. Highlights include the lighting of the fogueró, cooking demonstrations featuring traditional dishes such as ossos amb col, and workshops on ancient preservation methods. A craft market, Nordic walking routes, guided tours, art workshops, and folk dances round out the diverse program.

The Vuelta Cicloturista in Ibiza Campagnolo is organizing a major cleanup day in Portmany Bay on Saturday, starting at 9 a.m. The event will start at the Caló de s'Oli Auditorium in Sant Josep and Café Mambo in Sant Antoni, from where it will continue along the coast to Ses Variades. After the event, the Hotel Florencio Ibiza will invite all volunteers to a communal meal with prize draws. The initiative is supported by the municipalities of Sant Josep and Sant Antoni, the volunteer association, and local businesses. The goal is to protect the bay as a natural heritage site and raise awareness of sustainability.

• A 41-year-old Dutch tourist drowned on Wednesday during an excursion near Es Vedrà. The man, who, according to the Guardia Civil, was disabled and suffered from epileptic seizures, was swimming in the sea with about 20 other Dutchmen. Upon returning to the boat, his companions realized he was missing and searched for him. They eventually found him about 20 meters from the boat, motionless and face down in the water. Whether an epileptic seizure was the cause of death remains unclear.

• A video on Instagram is once again stoking the debate surrounding the decision to ban DJs in Ibiza's beach clubs – with the satirical title "You're disturbing the fish and the birds." In the clip, a supposed environmental official calls for the music to be reduced to 20 decibels and the DJ character to be abolished altogether – an irony that reveals the tension between climate protection and cultural image. The government of the Balearic Islands has recently issued stricter regulations for sound levels and licensing in an effort to strengthen environmental and noise protection. However, many clubs and guests criticize the measures as an attack on the island's musical trademark. The Sa Trinxa case, in which DJ sets were suspended, is a prime example of this debate.

● Las Dalias calls on all residents and visitors of Ibiza to participate in a beach clean-up event in Cala Llenya. The event will take place on Sunday September 28th from 11: 00 13 to: 00 pm and runs under the motto "Less plastic, more posidonia." The goal is to collect plastic waste and protect Posidonia populations, as this plant plays a central role in the ecosystem. The campaign is supported by the brand Sloppy Tunas, which produces sustainable swimwear from collected plastic. For children, there will be an educational animation featuring "Dali," the Las Dalias animal, and a mermaid who will tell environmental stories.

• The President of the Balearic Islands, Marga Prohens, made a strong call in Formentera for the transformation of the islands' tourism model. She emphasized that while tourism is essential for the economy and society, sustainable and socially acceptable development must be the priority in the future. Prohens emphasized the importance of extending the season and limiting the peak season to reduce the burden on locals. She also pointed out that quality growth is more important than pure volume growth. In her speech at the "Nit del Turisme 2025," she urged the tourism industry to prioritize innovation and responsible business.

• In the dilapidated building on Caminho de Cala Bassa, once built as the ruins of an unfinished project, homeless people have found a new home on a prime floor of what was long dubbed the "urban abomination" and later an art project. The ruins consist of three rectangular buildings with ground, first, and second floors, constructed in the 1970s, with only the foundation, roof, beams, and stairs completed. Part of the building was once painted black and considered a work of art called the "Templo de la Especulación." Today, six people live there (with fluctuating occupancy) using tents, pallets, and subcontracted structures. Spokesperson Nafi says they have lived there for about three years, mostly working in the catering industry, and hope to survive the winter as they keep their surroundings clean and have not had any conflicts with the authorities so far.

Flightright – When passenger rights simply work

Flight delays, cancellations, or overbookings are unfortunately not uncommon. However, many passengers are unaware that they are entitled to compensation in such cases – and even fewer know how to pursue it. This is precisely where Flight right comes into play: a pioneer among legal tech companies and market leader in the field of air passenger rights.

Specialist in EU passenger rights since 2010

Since its founding in 2010, Flightright has pursued a clear goal: to help passengers assert their rights against airlines – quickly, easily, and risk-free. The legal basis for this is the EU Air Passenger Rights Regulation 261/2004, which, among other things, provides compensation of up to 600 euros for flight problems.

How Flightright works

Using the service is incredibly simple: Affected parties enter the key details of their flight online – within a few minutes, the system automatically checks whether a claim exists. If so, Flightright handles the entire process with the airline, including all legal steps. Even court proceedings can be conducted upon request – at no additional cost to the customer.

The highlight: Payment is only made if the claim is successful. If no payout is made, there are no costs. If compensation is successful, Flightright retains a commission from the compensation amount. This model ensures maximum fairness and transparency.

Retroactive up to three years possible

Many people don’t know that even flights that took place in the past can still be compensated – usually up to three years retroactively. It is therefore worthwhile to have older cases reviewed again.

How much is the compensation?

The amount of compensation depends on the flight route:

  • EUR 250 for short distances up to 1.500 km
  • EUR 400 for medium-haul flights between 1.500 km and 3.500 km
  • EUR 600 for long distances over 3.500 km

This usually requires an arrival delay of at least three hours – or a flight cancelled at short notice for which the airline is responsible.

Why Flightright?

What sets Flightright apart is not only its fair success model, but also its impressive success rate of around 99% in legal proceedings. With over 600 million euros in compensation payments enforced Flightright is one of the absolute pioneers in Europe.

The provider also scores points with transparent communication: The status of the case can be viewed online at any time – conveniently from the sofa or on the go via smartphone.

For all those who do not want to be left with the damage

No one should forgo their right to compensation just because the process seems complicated. With Flightright, asserting your rights is child's play – without any stress, paperwork, or legal fees. Anyone who has experienced flight trouble can now easily protect themselves and have their compensation pursued professionally.

Check here whether you are entitled to money – and in the best case scenario, receive compensation soon
