• According to the 2021 INE census, almost 50% of all residential units in Ibiza and Formentera are either unoccupied or used as a second residence, out of a total of 85.882 homes in the Pitiusas. In Ibiza, 27,68% of the 78.913 homes are declared as second homes, while 19,93% are vacant – meaning that almost every second property is not used as a primary residence. Sant Joan is particularly affected, with 43,82% second homes and 35,5% vacant, meaning over 79% are non-primary residences. In Santa Eulària, 33% of the 22.810 residential units are registered as second homes, while 26,8% are vacant. In Sant Josep, 29,38% are second homes and 21,35% are vacant. On Formentera, only a quarter of all apartments are considered primary residences, while around 38% are empty or used as second homes.

• British authorities have placed Ibiza in the spotlight of "Operación Karetu" – an international anti-drug effort – after it emerged that drug gangs are luring young people to Ibiza via Instagram and TikTok with the promise of an influencer lifestyle. Young people are allegedly invited to free trips – for example, to fashion shoots or digital campaigns – and return home with drugs in their luggage. The number of British drug offenses has risen sharply: in Thailand, for example, from just 24 cases in 2023 to over 700 in 2024. The focus on Ibiza is no coincidence – the island is considered a hub for the drug trade, reports The Sun newspaper. The Border Force clearly warns: "They won't become influencers, they'll become inmates," and has therefore tightened controls at 22 UK airports and popular holiday destinations.

● The cult event La Movida celebrated its 20th anniversary and provided an energetic DJ session yesterday with Petit & Vazquez for a lively atmosphere on the beach of s'Arenal in Sant Antoni. The party was part of the Fiestas de Sant Bartomeu and offered a journey into the music of the 80s and 90s with real retro flair and a good portion of summer nostalgia. The musical event was complemented by performances by Oscar de Pablos, live saxophone by Lugotti, Choreographies of the Passion Dancers, acrobatics by A-crobatik Ibiza and surprise elements of the performance group Lab Gram. In addition, the Elena Torres Association was present with a booth to raise awareness for their research project on early cancer detection through donation packages. With this mix of nostalgia, showmanship, and social engagement, the celebration not only underscored the island's traditions but also the unique spirit of the local community.

Residents and business owners around Ibiza's port are warning of impending urban and traffic chaos due to the closure of the Es Pratet car park, which had 1.100 spaces that are currently missing. According to objections submitted, the new underground car park, with only 700 spaces, will not compensate for this loss in capacity or proximity to the city center. Those affected are calling for the temporary retention of Es Pratet and the development of modular or elevated parking areas in zones 2 and 3 of the port. They warn that without quick, practical solutions, the fabric of urban life could collapse – through traffic jams, business closures, and the displacement of residents. This is due to the ongoing revision of the Plan Especial del Puerto, which residents and business owners are already criticizing for uncertainty and a lack of transparency.

Despite the ongoing water shortage, the number of swimming pools in Ibiza increased by 524 last year—equivalent to almost 1,5 new pools per day. A total of 11.425 pools are now registered, 57 of which are indoors, an increase of almost five percent compared to 2024. Since 2022, the annual increase has even doubled, with more than 1.000 new pools being built in three years. Santa Eulària, in particular, has seen the largest increases, with 4.543 pools, an increase of 282, while Sant Joan has the highest ratio of pools per capita. The new Territorial Insular Plan now stipulates stricter rules on water use, pool size, and water recycling to curb consumption.

A Vueling flight from Ibiza to Alicante was dramatically delayed: Instead of departing as scheduled at 21:55 p.m., the plane didn't leave the island until around 9:00 a.m. the next morning. A technical defect in the de-icing system led to the cancellation of the original flight. Alternative flight times were miscommunicated several times, and passengers had to spend a restless night at the airport. The tense situation escalated when angry travelers blocked boarding of another Vueling flight, forcing police to intervene. Eventually, the delayed return flight to the island took off – about twelve hours later than scheduled.

Flightright – When passenger rights simply work

Flight delays, cancellations, or overbookings are unfortunately not uncommon. However, many passengers are unaware that they are entitled to compensation in such cases – and even fewer know how to pursue it. This is precisely where Flight right comes into play: a pioneer among legal tech companies and market leader in the field of air passenger rights.

Specialist in EU passenger rights since 2010

Since its founding in 2010, Flightright has pursued a clear goal: to help passengers assert their rights against airlines – quickly, easily, and risk-free. The legal basis for this is the EU Air Passenger Rights Regulation 261/2004, which, among other things, provides compensation of up to 600 euros for flight problems.

How Flightright works

Using the service is incredibly simple: Affected parties enter the key details of their flight online – within a few minutes, the system automatically checks whether a claim exists. If so, Flightright handles the entire process with the airline, including all legal steps. Even court proceedings can be conducted upon request – at no additional cost to the customer.

The highlight: Payment is only made if the claim is successful. If no payout is made, there are no costs. If compensation is successful, Flightright retains a commission from the compensation amount. This model ensures maximum fairness and transparency.

Retroactive up to three years possible

Many people don’t know that even flights that took place in the past can still be compensated – usually up to three years retroactively. It is therefore worthwhile to have older cases reviewed again.

How much is the compensation?

The amount of compensation depends on the flight route:

  • EUR 250 for short distances up to 1.500 km
  • EUR 400 for medium-haul flights between 1.500 km and 3.500 km
  • EUR 600 for long distances over 3.500 km

This usually requires an arrival delay of at least three hours – or a flight cancelled at short notice for which the airline is responsible.

Why Flightright?

What sets Flightright apart is not only its fair success model, but also its impressive success rate of around 99% in legal proceedings. With over 600 million euros in compensation payments enforced Flightright is one of the absolute pioneers in Europe.

The provider also scores points with transparent communication: The status of the case can be viewed online at any time – conveniently from the sofa or on the go via smartphone.

For all those who do not want to be left with the damage

No one should forgo their right to compensation just because the process seems complicated. With Flightright, asserting your rights is child's play – without any stress, paperwork, or legal fees. Anyone who has experienced flight trouble can now easily protect themselves and have their compensation pursued professionally.

Check here whether you are entitled to money – and in the best case scenario, receive compensation soon
