Ibiza Diary: News from Friday, September 26, 2025
Ibiza is facing a transformation in tourism: new travelers are no longer looking for standard offerings, but rather tailor-made experiences. Culture, distinctive gastronomy, wellness, and authentic activities are in demand, while traditional mass-market offerings are declining. Increasingly shorter stays mean vacationers are investing more selectively and paying more for special experiences. This presents a major opportunity for the island: It can leverage its diversity to position itself as a destination with character, beyond sun and sand. Authenticity and the ability to constantly reinvent itself are considered key to the future.
• Mykonos and Ibiza have been compared for years, but the differences could hardly be greater. While Mykonos is considered a hotspot for luxury travel, boasting Cycladic architecture and exclusivity, Ibiza focuses on diversity. Here, world-famous clubs and international DJs meet untouched nature, cultural heritage, and options for a wide range of budgets. Mykonos is more compact and more focused on high-end tourism, while Ibiza is more diverse and broadly positioned. The choice between the two destinations therefore depends largely on individual preferences—pure luxury or a mix of partying, nature, and culture.
• In an interview with Wololo Sound, Ibizan DJ Anna Tur sharply criticized the recent restrictions on music in Ibiza. She emphasized that there is "not a single villa with a party permit," while bars and beach clubs like Sa Trinxa and Sunset Ashram face fines of up to €5.000. She specifically targeted the Sant Josep town council, accusing them of hiding behind the coastal law. Instead of restricting music, Tur said the authorities should tackle "the housing crisis, the shortage of doctors, and illegal taxis." She also recalled the beginnings of electronic music on the island and praised the role of resident DJs and the "incredible spirit" of Carl Cox.
• The Consell Insular de Ibiza has approved a comprehensive package of measures to protect groundwater reserves and improve the water supply. Investments are planned for modernizing networks, expanding desalination plants, and increasing the use of reclaimed water. Agriculture will also be supplied more with treated water to reduce pressure on groundwater reserves. Studies are also planned for aquifer replenishment and storage solutions for desalinated water. Ibiza is thus responding decisively to the increasing drought and the risk of overexploitation of natural water resources.

• Hurricane Gabrielle is losing its tropical strength and will reach the Balearic Islands as a low-pressure system this weekend. Heavy rains, gale-force winds, and high waves are expected, especially along the coast. AEMET warns of potential uncertainty in the path, so short-term changes are possible. Thunderstorms may also occur, exacerbating the situation. Increased caution is required for all seaside and outdoor activities in Ibiza and Formentera.

• Former beach bar operators on Formentera are warning the Consell of legal action if it does not respond to their demands within ten days. They are demanding the cancellation of current concessions and the initiation of sanction proceedings for seven serious irregularities – including unauthorized construction, coastal interventions, and violations of demolition regulations. Among other things, they criticize the lack of prior approval for construction work and the fact that structures are located outside of authorized zones. If no action is taken, they will take legal action before the Administrative Court of the Balearic Islands.

Flightright – When passenger rights simply work
Flight delays, cancellations, or overbookings are unfortunately not uncommon. However, many passengers are unaware that they are entitled to compensation in such cases – and even fewer know how to pursue it. This is precisely where Flight right comes into play: a pioneer among legal tech companies and market leader in the field of air passenger rights.
Specialist in EU passenger rights since 2010
Since its founding in 2010, Flightright has pursued a clear goal: to help passengers assert their rights against airlines – quickly, easily, and risk-free. The legal basis for this is the EU Air Passenger Rights Regulation 261/2004, which, among other things, provides compensation of up to 600 euros for flight problems.
How Flightright works
Using the service is incredibly simple: Affected parties enter the key details of their flight online – within a few minutes, the system automatically checks whether a claim exists. If so, Flightright handles the entire process with the airline, including all legal steps. Even court proceedings can be conducted upon request – at no additional cost to the customer.
The highlight: Payment is only made if the claim is successful. If no payout is made, there are no costs. If compensation is successful, Flightright retains a commission from the compensation amount. This model ensures maximum fairness and transparency.
Retroactive up to three years possible
Many people don’t know that even flights that took place in the past can still be compensated – usually up to three years retroactively. It is therefore worthwhile to have older cases reviewed again.
How much is the compensation?
The amount of compensation depends on the flight route:
- EUR 250 for short distances up to 1.500 km
- EUR 400 for medium-haul flights between 1.500 km and 3.500 km
- EUR 600 for long distances over 3.500 km
This usually requires an arrival delay of at least three hours – or a flight cancelled at short notice for which the airline is responsible.
Why Flightright?
What sets Flightright apart is not only its fair success model, but also its impressive success rate of around 99% in legal proceedings. With over 600 million euros in compensation payments enforced Flightright is one of the absolute pioneers in Europe.
The provider also scores points with transparent communication: The status of the case can be viewed online at any time – conveniently from the sofa or on the go via smartphone.
For all those who do not want to be left with the damage
No one should forgo their right to compensation just because the process seems complicated. With Flightright, asserting your rights is child's play – without any stress, paperwork, or legal fees. Anyone who has experienced flight trouble can now easily protect themselves and have their compensation pursued professionally.
